Experimenters

Arriving on site

Please get in touch with your local contact after your arrival on site. If you have general questions please contact the HASYLAB users' office (in buidling 25f).

The synchrotron radiation emitted from electrons or positrons in the DORIS and PETRA storage rings or the free electron laser FLASH is used at about 40 experimental stations with about 60 instruments.

In order to perform experiments at this stations safely, certain rules must be observed. Only persons who have made themselves aware of the regulations for safety and radiation protection (via DOOR) are permitted to work at HASYLAB. You will also be instructed at your experimental station by the local contact.

Performing an experiment

To support the experiments different services and infrastructure (Mechanical wokshop, library, chemistry laboratory, computing, etc.) are available at HASYLAB/DESY for external and in-house users.

Experimental Hall Supervisor and Shift Technician (Phone (9)3868)

During the day the person to contact with technical queries is the experimental hall supervisor. He is responsible for ensuring that the various support systems, (water, compressed air, helium, exhaust gases) are properly used. In addition he will order any gas from the DESY group MEA3.

The shift technician can be reached during weekdays between 17.00 and 01.00 h and during the week-ends and official holidays from 9.00 to 24.00 h (Status: Jan. 2007) - please check with the information boards.

The experimental hall supervisor/shift technician can be reached by telephone (9)3868 or +49 (0)40-8998-3868 (from outside).

In case of fire or accidents, dial the DESY EMERGENCY Number 2500 (extern +49 40 8998 2500).

Do not directly call ambulance or fire brigade yourself!
