In the application form for projects you are ask to indicate the category of your proposal. There are two different categories of DORIS proposals which are treated equally regarding allocation of beamtime. There is only one category for FLASH and PETRA III proposal.
Short experiments which can be performed in collaboration with an experienced group at an already existing experiment. A large fraction of those proposals are feasibility experiments for future long term projects. Typically the total beamtime for such projects is of the order of 3-10 days per year.
Please note:
DORIS and PETRA: 1 day beamtime = 3 shifts (1 shift = 8 hours)
Please note that because DORIS III will be shut down end of 2012, only category I proposals will be accepted in 2011 and 2012. Category II proposals for PETRA III will be made available in future calls.
Normally those projects constitute a more extensive and longer term activity at DESY covering three (or more) years, or the beamtime requirement exceeds 10 days per year.
Please note:
1 day beamtime = 3 shifts (1 shift = 8 hours)
The validity of FLASH proposals depends on the actual FLASH operating schedule (usally between 9 month and 24 month) and will be announced.
Please note:
FLASH: 1 day beamtime = 2 shifts (1 shift = 12 hours)
